Style with Me: Holiday Living Room

There’s a special place in my heart for the heart of my home—my living room. It’s not just a room; it’s the canvas where holiday memories come to life, a stage for laughter, love, and the magic of Christmas. Join me as I share how I decorated my living room for Christmas.

The Majestic Christmas Tree:

Our 10-foot pre-lit Christmas tree is the star of the show. With our tall ceilings, it’s the perfect centerpiece, filling the room with a sense of grandeur. I included cherished ornaments and every year I add a couple new ones. My favorites addition to the tree this year is the dusty blue chiffon ribbon. It adds a touch of contrast to the deeper tones on the tree.

Fireside Elegance:

The fireplace, takes center stage as well. I’ve decorated it with real touch garland, intertwined with 2 strands of shiny mercury ornament garland. I added my collection of old and new decorative trees, and my favorite faux cedar & pinecone wreath.

Faux Furs:

Creating cozy vibes is a non-negotiable part of my holiday decor. Faux fur throw blankets now drape over sofas and chairs. Plush faux fur pillows, add an extra layer of comfort and style. Pro tip: faux fur throw blankets and pillows transition perfectly into your winter decor after the Holidays.

Winter Greenery:

My favorite part of Christmas decor is the winter greenery! They find their way into every corner of the house. From the garland, to the wreaths, pinecones and evergreen branches, they are not just greenery. They are holiday cheer that transform the ordinary into the something a bit more special.

Creating Memories in Every Detail:

Beyond the decorations, it’s about creating moments. From a coffee table moment with a scented candle that smells like cinnamon or pine, to a chair moment with a cozy blanket and pillow to drink hot cocoa. It’s these moments that will surely turn into memories.

As the tree sparkles and the fire crackles, I’m reminded that the true magic of Christmas is found not just in the decorations but in the love and laughter shared within these walls. Cheers to a season filled with joy, coziness, and the beauty of a home that’s alive with the spirit of Christmas.

The Designer’s Secret: Ditch the Matching Sets

Want to know the secret to creating a designer-inspired look in your home? The secret isn’t in following a strict set of rules; it’s about breaking free from one of the most common misconceptions in home decor – the matching furniture set.

In the world of interior design, creativity thrives when you embrace uniqueness. While it might seem convenient to buy a pre-matched furniture set, you’ll find the most interesting spaces are often curated with individual pieces.

Here’s why:

1. Personality and Character:

Matching sets can sometimes feel like they lack character. By selecting each piece you can infuse your personality into each choice. Mixing and layering styles of furniture actually elevates your space by creating a dynamic look that took effort and consideration.

2. A Play of Textures and Styles:

Designers love to mix different textures, styles, and eras to create visual interest. This blend can add depth and interest to your space. Instead of uniformity, embrace the beauty of diversity.

3. Customization and Flexibility:

When you choose individual items, you have the freedom to customize your space according to your needs. You can adapt as your style evolves. Plus, mixing furniture allows you to get away with mixing high and low priced pieces to make your investment pieces stand out while elevating your more affordable pieces.

4. Timeless Appeal:

A carefully curated mix of furniture tends to have a timeless quality. These pieces don’t adhere to trends, so your space remains chic and relevant for years to come.

Tips for Curating Your Space:

  • Start with a focal piece: Begin with one item that you absolutely love, whether it’s a unique sofa or a vintage coffee table. Let this piece set the tone for the rest of your decor.
  • Play with color: Incorporate a harmonious color palette, but don’t be afraid to introduce pops of complementary colors.
  • Experiment with styles: Mix styles like modern and vintage, rustic and modern, to create a blended style that’s uniquely yours.
  • Layer with textures: Use different textures like rattan, leather, wood, and metal to add depth and tactile interest to your decor.
  • Balance and flow: Pay attention to the balance of furniture and decor in your space. Ensure there’s enough visual flow to lead the eye through the room.

I am a firm believer that interiors should be a place for self-expression. Break free from the matching furniture set and embracing the art of curation. By doing so, your space will evolve into a reflection of your personality and style. So, be different, embrace the mix-and-match approach, and watch your space embody the designer inspired home.

Let me know your thoughts about furniture sets.

Fall Living Room

As the days grow shorter,  I wanted to start adding easy seasonal touches, and I always tend to start in my living room. This year I wanted to start by setting the tone with a color pallet that would infuse my light and airy living room with richness and warmth.

Bringing in Deeper Hues

My living room has always been a light and airy space. However, with the new season in mind, I decided to experiment with slightly darker tones without sacrificing the essence of the room. Enter throw pillows! I always say throw pillows are one of those versatile items that can instantly transform a space. The subtle shift from lighter shades to rich, earthy colors like forest green and warm browns instantly set the fall mood.

The Velvet Elegance

One of my favorite elements in this refresh was the addition of my velvet green ottomans. These lush, forest-green gems had been tucked away, waiting for their time to shine. With the darker tones of the throw pillows, the ottomans found their perfect place. The velvety texture not only felt lux but also invited relaxation and comfort.

Harmonizing Fall and Winter

I have to say what I love most about this update is it’s versatility. As the seasons continue to change, the deeper toned textiles will effortlessly transition into the winter months. I can easily see these throw pillows playing beautifully with twinkling lights and festive holiday decor.

In the End…

This simple update is a reminder that a touch of change can create a world of a difference!

The Monthly Six: July Favorites

My Walmart nesting tables are giving designer vibes but you won’t believe the price. They work beautifully in my office! This fluted glass vase adds an elegant touch to any bouquet. Such a versatile piece that’ll work anywhere in your home.

Let’s talk about my coffee table – where style meets substance. It’s one of your favorites in my home week after week and for good reason.  One of my personal favorites is this faux olive tree. It effortlessly breathes life into any neglected corner. Add a statement vessel and green moss to elevate the look of this affordable faux tree.

A must have are my throw pillow inserts that I use on rotation. They make my throw pillows perfectly choppable. I reuse them over and over as I switch out pillow covers for each season.

Cheers to a month filled with some amazing finds!

Embracing Autumn: Decorating without Pumpkins

As the crisp air of fall settles in, it’s time to transform your living spaces into cozy retreats. While pumpkins are a classic choice for fall decor, there’s so many creative alternatives that allow you to capture the essence of autumn in a unique way. Let’s talk about how to decorate for fall without relying on pumpkins.

Textures That Speak of Autumn

Incorporate textures that mimic the changing landscape. Think chunky knit blankets in rich, warm hues. Also, use plush velvet cushions, and soft faux fur throws. These textures not only provide comfort but also evoke the feeling of snuggling up on a cool autumn day.

Deeper Toned Textiles

Channel the palette of fall foliage by infusing your decor with earthy tones and deep, saturated shades. Rusty reds, burnt oranges, golden yellows, and deep browns can be used through your linens, drapes, and accent upholstery.

Swap out lightweight summer textiles for heavier, cozier options. Consider trading in lightweight cotton for lux fabrics like wool, tweed, and flannel. Refresh your seating for the season with throw blankets and decorative pillows in these materials and hues to create warmth and sophistication in your space.

Natural Elements and Earthy Vibes

Bring the outdoors in by incorporating natural elements with an earthy, organic vibe. Decorative branches and pine cones can be arranged in vases or added to decorative bowls. Wooden accents, such as reclaimed wood, contribute to a rustic aesthetic that embodies fall.

Remember…

Decorating for fall without relying on pumpkins opens up a world of creative possibilities. By focusing on textures,  deeper toned textiles, and natural elements, you can curate a space that gives a subtle nod to the season. Embrace the richness and warmth that fall brings. Create a space that invites relaxation throughout the autumn months.

My Office

Every project begins with a spark of inspiration. You know me… light and airy spaces have my heart, but I’ve recently been drooling over designs that embrace darker, richer tones. Updating my office was on the top of my list of rooms to tackle, and this was the perfect opportunity to design a moody space that sparks creatively and focus.

With the design concept in mind, I worked with a carpenter to bring my vision to life. The right paint color was just as important to achieving my desired moody atmosphere. After much thought and testing various shades in different lighting… I landed on Roycroft Bronze Green by Sherwin Williams.

Now the fun part! Time to curate the space’s personality with the furniture and decor. Because the space is definitely moody, and this after all is a big change for me, I decided to stay true to my personality with light and airy accessories. So I like to think of my office as moody with a dash of light and airy.

Pro tip: Incorporate soft, ambient lighting through a floor or table lamp, and a statement chandelier. This is the jewelry of a space.

Creating a Balanced Home: Splurge Vs. Save

When it comes to decorating our homes, a balance between budget-conscious and splurge worthy pieces is key. By knowing where to save and spend, we create spaces that exude style and visual impact without breaking the bank. Let’s talk about it!

The Power of Visual Weight:

Visual weight is that object in the room that attracts attention. The more an object attracts the eye, the greater it’s visual weight within a space. These are the items we want to invest in. They draw attention, create focal points, and elevate the overall aesthetic.

Splurge-Worthy Items:

Identify what is going to take up a large amount of visual weight in your room. These are the items in your home that deserve an investment. These are also the pieces we aim to keep more timeless while also making statement in the room. Yes, the investment is more, but the thought is they’ll stand the test of time.

  • Timeless Furniture: Investing in high-quality furniture pieces such as a sofa, a dining table, a sideboard, can transform the vibe of a room. These pieces anchor the space, serve as focal points, and elevates the overall esthetics.
  • Artwork and Mirrors: Unique artwork, large-scale paintings, or eye-catching mirrors will instantly elevate the visual impact of your space. Artwork that resonates with your style and complements your overall decor will create a space that’s uniquely you.
  • Lighting: Light fixtures, such as chandeliers, pendant lights, floor and table lamps, are functional and also serve as design elements. Investing on lighting will create an ambiance and add a visual interest to your home.

Where to Save:

This is the fun part! Mixing in the affordable pieces is where the magic happens.  This is where you infuse your personality, creativity and resourcefulness! It’s also where you can take your time and purchase these items slowly as your budget allows.

  • Decorative Accessories: Accessories like vases, throw pillows, and smaller decorative items add personality to your home, but they don’t need to be expensive. This is also where you can add a trendy piece to your home without feeling the pressure of it going out of style too fast.
  • Accent Furniture: Furniture pieces that don’t necessarily serve as focal points, like accent chairs or end tables are the ones you can save on. There are so many stylish and budget-friendly options. Don’t think that because it’s inexpensive it won’t look stylish. You’ll love that trendy side table you’ve been swooning over so much more when it doesn’t cost a pretty penny.

When it comes to designing your home, it’s important to curate a space that strikes a balance between saving and spending. By prioritizing items that carry visual weight, such as statement furniture, you can invest your money wisely to elevate the overall look and feel of your space. Remember it’s all about striking the right balance!

Spinach Berry Salad: A Refreshing Forth of July Delight!

The Forth of July is a special day where we come together and celebrate with family, friends and yummy food. While we all love the traditional barbecue, it’s also nice to incorporate lighter and healthier options into the menu. This Spinach Berry Salad is the perfect addition to your Forth of July spread. Packed with vibrant colors and fresh ingredients, this salad is a perfect addition on a hot summer day.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups baby spinach leaves
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Dressing:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set aside.
    • You can also purchase grocery store dressing.
  • Assemble the Salad:
    • In a large salad bowl, add the baby spinach leaves as the base.
    • Top the spinach with sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, crumbled feta cheese, sliced almonds, red onion, and torn basil leaves.
    • Drizzle the dressing over the salad. Or I typically prefer to keep it on the side and let everyone drizzle to their liking.
  • Toss and Serve:
    • Toss the salad to ensure all the ingredients are coated with the dressing. Be careful not to crush the delicate berries. Once well combined, transfer the salad to a serving platter or individual plates.
  • Enjoy!
    • Serve the Spinach Berry Salad immediately and enjoy the combination of sweet berries, tangy feta cheese, and the crunch of the almonds.

Tips:

  • Feel free to add grilled chicken or shrimp to make a heartier option.
  • Ensure all the ingredients are fresh for the best flavor.
  • I also like a poppy seed dressing (homemade or store bought).

Gather your loved ones, fire up the grill, and serve this refreshing salad alongside your favorite barbecue dishes.
