I’m a big believer that creating a beautiful home doesn’t mean everything in it has to be expensive. In fact, some of the pieces that make the biggest difference in our home are often the smallest ones.
Once you have your foundational pieces in place, it’s the layers that really bring a room together. Artwork on an empty wall, a beautiful vase filled with stems, pillows that introduce a little color or texture, or a tray that turns a few everyday objects into an intentional grouping.
Those finishing touches are also one of my favorite places to save. Artwork is one of those things that can completely change a room, even if nothing else changes with it.
I love using affordable art to fill smaller walls, layer into shelves, or create a collected gallery wall without making a huge investment. Look for pieces that pull in colors you’re already using throughout the room. It’s such an easy way to create a little more connection between your furniture, textiles, and decor.

vases + stems for height and texture
You already know how much I love a good vase and oversized stems.
I use them everywhere: kitchen islands, coffee tables, consoles, dining tables, and shelves. A vase can add shape and texture on its own, while faux florals or branches bring in height, movement, and an organic element that instantly makes a room feel more layered.
I especially love pieces that can transition from season to season. Simply changing the stems can give the same vase an entirely different look.

A decorative tray is probably one of my most-used styling tricks.
Instead of having a candle, vase, coasters, and other little objects scattered across a coffee table, grouping a few of them together on a tray instantly makes everything feel more purposeful. Trays create a visual anchor and can make everyday objects read as one styled composition rather than separate clutter.
I use them on coffee tables, kitchen counters, bathroom vanities, consoles, and nightstands. It’s one of those inexpensive pieces that you’ll find yourself moving around the house constantly.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about decorating is that you need to constantly make big purchases to make your home feel different.
Usually, I find the opposite to be true.
The foundational pieces give a room its structure, but the smaller details are what give it personality. They help repeat colors, introduce texture, fill an awkward empty space, and ultimately make everything else in the room feel more connected.
And those pieces don’t have to cost a lot.
I’d rather slowly collect affordable things I genuinely love than rush to fill a space just for the sake of finishing it. A $30 vase, the right pillow, or a piece of art you love can stay in your home for years and move from room to room as your style evolves.
