First Touches of Fall I’m Adding to Our Home

The simple seasonal updates I’m making now to bring a little warmth into our home without going full fall just yet.

I’m never quite ready to completely say goodbye to summer, but this is usually the time of year when I start craving a little more warmth and cozy throughout our home.

For me, transitioning into fall isn’t about changing everything at once. I like to start small – bringing in richer colors, warmer textures, and a few seasonal pieces that subtly shift the feeling of a room.

This year, I’m leaning into muted greens, warm browns, soft rust tones, and deeper burgundy. These are a few of the first touches of fall making their way into our home.

fall pears + seasonal accents

One of the easiest ways to transition a kitchen for the season is with something as simple as a bowl of fall fruit. I love the warmth that pears bring to a kitchen island or countertop, especially paired with woven textures, a favorite candle, and a few natural elements.

It’s subtle, but those little details immediately make the space feel more seasonal without looking overly decorated.

faux fall stems

You know I love using oversized stems throughout our home, and fall is when I have the most fun with them.

This year, I’m bringing in deeper burgundy branches along with softer, more muted stems. I love how much height and movement they add to a kitchen island or console, and you only need a few stems in a beautiful vase to make an impact.

a seasonal pillow refresh

Pillows are probably the easiest seasonal swap I make.

Instead of changing the entire room, I’ll bring in a few warmer tones and patterns alongside the neutrals we already have. Browns, muted greens, rust, and subtle patterns add just enough depth to make the living room feel cozier while still working with everything else year-round.

a welcoming fall wreath and ribbon

The front door is always one of the first places I update for a new season.

I love the fullness and muted fall tones of this wreath, and adding a beautiful ribbon gives it a more finished, collected feel. It’s such a simple change, but it sets the tone before you even walk through the door.

pumpkin vases + candleholders

I love seasonal decor that doesn’t feel overly seasonal, and these pumpkin-shaped pieces are exactly that.

The warm, earthy finish works beautifully with the rest of our home, while the shape adds a subtle nod to fall. Filled with stems or styled with a candle, they’re an easy way to bring in the season without adding traditional orange pumpkins everywhere.

I’ve learned that I enjoy seasonal decorating so much more when I let it happen gradually. A new pillow here, warmer stems there, a wreath on the front door – those small changes are usually enough to make our home feel completely different.

As we get further into fall, I’m sure I’ll continue layering in a few more cozy textures and seasonal details. But for now, these first touches are exactly what I was craving: warm, inviting, and still simple enough to enjoy during these last weeks of summer.

Sometimes you don’t need to redecorate for a new season. You just need a few thoughtful pieces that make home feel ready for what’s next.
